We have passed through the Carolinas and will be in Virginia in another day or so. In South Carolina we stopped in Beaufort (pronounced Buford), SC. The marina was in the historic town so a very quick walk to the second oldest town in SC where we did mostly tourist activities and waterfront restaurants. As we moved into North Carolina we anchored out most nights and even one night along Camp Lejeune Marine Base where it is rumored they practice water launchings and landings. Mike was hoping to get up in the morning and being surrounded by military boats…no such luck. We made our way to to Beauford (this one pronounced Boford), NC. The third oldest city in NC. There we planning on spending 4 days in a marina doing some necessary cleaning (its amazing how much and what kind of stuff grows in and on a boat) and maintenance that no one tells you about. However, due to 6 days of 50 MPH winds from the north we (and most boats on the Atlantic side) spent 8 days essentially hunkered down trying to not blow away. We did, however, get all the work completed on the boat. Finally got out today (May 13) and are anchored out along Dead Duck Point (pictured below) for the night, along the ICW (Intercoastal water way). Our next destination is the Dismal Swamp which will take us into Norfolk Virginia – the home of the largest Naval base on the planet.
We will keep you updated with hopefully more frequent posts, now that I have the Blog up and running (thank you Corbett and Jason). I will trying to work out some of the details on the site, but keep popping in often to see what changes have been made, pictures added, and current posts. Love to all, Gina and Mike
