Sooooo, Lake Erie isn’t that great. Last night we were anchored in a little cove that turned out to not be protected from the wind drive waves; therefore, we bounced around all night long.
Today it was so choppy crossing to Dunkirk, NY that everything that was up on shelves, on seats, in cabinets and even in the showers was thrown all around the boat. The furniture that is not nailed down was also tossed around the salon. It looked like a bomb had been set off. Between last night and the ride today I was so seasick that Michael had to take over driving until we got into port this afternoon.
Speaking of port (the location, not the left side), we ran into a little trouble there too. We were going to anchor in the bay outside the marina but it was so congested with seagrass that the anchor would not hold. When Michael pulled it up it was so full of grass that it took him 20 minutes to get the ginormous ball of tangled grass off the anchor. By that time I was having problems with the port (the left side) engine which stalled on me twice and finally failed completely while I was trying to dock at the city free dock. We did not initially head to the free dock because there was a report that overnighters were not allowed. But we were in need of a place to take care of our engine issues so we pulled in and dared someone to throw us out. Turns out there is no such rule so we are good.
So after getting out of the grass, crashing into the dock and getting us tied up and settled, we did a check on the engine. It restarted, shifted and revved ok. We cleaned out the sea strainers, did some other checking of systems and it seems to be ok? I think she was just mad that she had to go a little faster than she was used to over the past months and didn’t like the chop and all the grasses getting all up into her systems. Have I told you she is kind of spoiled? Now maybe even a little bratty? Hmmmmm.
Tomorrow looks to be better wind wise so here’s hoping to get back to enjoyable traveling. Keep up with us along the journey. I hope you are enjoying some of the adventure. Love to all, Gina and Mike
