We are essentially retracing some of our steps from last season as we make our way north along the west coast of Michigan and up into Lake Superior. We anchored out for 4 nights in various spots along the way.
In one of the anchorages we had front row seats to a project that moved 1/2 mile long dredging pipes from one end of the bay to the other. That was several hours of entertainment.
On Monday, June 5th we got back to Frankfort. Frankfort is the place with the world’s worst sushi, if you remember from last season. We were there for 4 days as we had several packages delivered there that contained pieces and parts for repairs and several new projects that Michael felt we needed on the boat. We now have every possible piece of marine electronic equipment imaginable for a boat installed on this boat. We also participated in several tourist things that we did not do our first time through, like a very enjoyable 18 mile bike ride along the river and through the forest through lesser traveled land. I also found the old bank building in the heart of town that was vacant on our last visit seems to still be vacant and which I would just love to buy and turn into my house, but my finance guy just rolls his eyes and says to keep on walking. Jeez.
The water in this part of Lake Michigan is full of huge slicks of pollen that are blown off shore and gather in giant waves that go or miles on the water. These are only a couple of examples.
From Frankfort we headed 40 miles, 5 1/2 hours north to another duplicated stop. We are now between the little and the ring finger on the mitten map in Leland, also known as Fishtown. Here we walked the town looking for an SD card for our newly purchased GoPro so we could drop it in the water, which is crystal clear here, to take a look at our props as the port engine seems to be struggling a bit and even stalled once while traveling at idle speed, so we want to look and see if there is anything noticeable with the props or shaft. But to no avail, no one seems to have such. Hope to find one soon. While in Leland we even discovered a local small batch distillery…enough said there.
We are in Leland for only one night due to upcoming weather and will be heading out early, at “sailor’s dawn”, before a storm hits, to scoot 7 hours up into Petosky (where last time I was essentially comatose for 4 days and missed the whole thing) for about 3-4 days. There we will be getting another bunch of packages for supplies and bits and pieces. I have no idea what he is now going to install.
Thanks for keeping up with is as we travel along America’s Great Loop.
Love to all, Mike and Gina
