We have been to several anchorages along the south shore of the lake that have all been very choppy and bumpy. Sleeping is hard as the waves crashing into the boat sound like someone taking a sledge hammer to the side of the boat, and it’s constant.
Yesterday (August 3) we pulled onto a cute little marina in Cleveland Ohio, right outside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What great place that is! Another thing to put on your bucket list. It is 6 stories and took us several hours to go through and there is no way we saw it all. We were members of the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles for a couple of years and the RRHF is like that only on several doses of steroids.
Our friends, Jeff and Pat from Florida are originally from this part of Ohio (Jeff actually was Mike’s boss in So Cal in the 80’s and 90’s before they moved to Florida). Jeff gave us the name of a local bar that he used to frequent so we went there, of course we did. It’s a quaint, old school neighborhood bar that we wondered where the heck or Lyft driver was taking us and if we could even get back. When we got there one guy even asked us if we were lost! HAHAHAHA, nope, we came here on purpose.
Established in 1895 and some of the bottles looked to be originals from back in that day, all with at least an inch of dust on them. But the beer was cold and the drinks were good as well as cheap.
From there we headed into downtown Cleveland to Iron Chef Michael Symon’s Mable’s BBQ restaurant. OOOHHHH I was so in pig heaven. The drinks were excellent and the ribs were, other than my own, the best I have ever had and the brisket was exceptional. Even the chitlins were surprisingly good, but with only gas station pork rinds to judge against, it’s not a very high bar.
Today, August 4, we headed to Huron Ohio to the Huron City Boat Basin for tonight and tomorrow night. Even though the entire trip was in a blinding rain storm (thank God for radar) and which stopped as we pulled into port, the water was very smooth which actually made it a pretty nice 45 mile ride.
BUT! On the way here we found that the starboard (right) engine would intermittently drop RPMs then catch up. After playing around with speed, other systems and some internet research, we think we may have a problem with the starboard engine fuel system…OH GREAT! It’s ALWAYS SOMETHING. In fact, someone, please put that on my headstone. And of course, finding certified Caterpillar diesel repair people is not easy in these parts. Michael currently has several calls out to see if/how this mess can be rectified.
Thanks for following along on this journey. Keep looking in to see “now what”. Love to all, Gina and Mike
