We finally go to eat at American Bounty Restaurant at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. It was a short Uber ride from Shadows Marina in Poughkeepsie where we were docked. OMG! the food was amazing and the experience a once in a lifetime event. The best octopus I have ever had. I am so happy we were able to make the trip to the CIA doable along our journey. What a treat. For those that don’t know, my brother Jim and sister-in-law Kelly graduated from the CIA and are both successful chefs.
On June we left Poughkeepsie and headed north on our continued journey. There were many beautiful sights along the way.
There are some unique lighthouses in this part of the Hudson
We are in Cocksackie, NY for the night at a free dock, previously known as Reed’s Landing. Reed’s Landing was established in 1810 as the hub for commerce and travel where local goods were sent to market. Cocksackie is/was a rundown town that is rebuilding itself to a wonderful waterfront destination for Loopers and boaters along the Hudson River. It invested over a million dollars into the waterfront area to make the town accessible from the Hudson river. There is a brand new free dock along a gorgeous park with picnic benches and a bunch of Adironadack chairs for enjoying the evening along the river. They had a Farmer’s Market in the waterfront pavilion the day we were there and got some fresh, local veggies. The town itself has a few restaurants. We ate at Che Figata Bistro, a wonderful Italian place. A quaint little town I can see living in…and then what?
We head out early tomorrow morning, June 30, to get some diesel and pump out before taking on 20 odd locks toward the Western Erie Canal. Keep checking in as we progress. Love to all, Gina and Mike.
