We left Atlantic City at 4:30 on a rainy, windy morning…go figure. We had to leave that early to deal with tides through the New Jersey ICW which was reported as being very shallow and the rain was only supposed to be a little bit and not for very long. I now report that it was VERY shallow most of the way through and it rained A LOT for half the day. There were times when we were in 3 feet of water and I was often hunting for more water in the channel. We draw 3 ft. 8 in. so we coasted a lot of the way through that 4 day adventure. Luckily we didn’t hit bottom, that we know of, but I am not real excited to see our props when the boat is next out of the water. On our way out of Atlantic City we encountered what looked like a jet boat race. There were at least 50 of them loudly flying by. Good thing we made it through a bridge before they descended upon us. Watching them all reach the bridge no wake zone and jockeying for position to get through was hysterical and reminded me of one time when Daquari was chasing bunch of rabbits through a fence.
We anchored out for the 4 nights as we slowly made our way toward New York. Of course it was incredible windy over those 4 nights and marinas were going to be difficult, so we found little hidey holes to anchor in. Due to the shallowness of the area we were more exposed than we would have liked, but our anchor held. Other than the chop, the winds were not too bad at 30-35 MPH. What we did get for those stops were some amazing sunsets.
