We left Cape May early in the morning on June 13 as we were having to travel “outside” in the Atlantic and the wind and chop looked good early in the day for travel and we wanted to get into Atlantic City before afternoon winds. It was an uneventful ride with water all around.
We got into the Farley State Marina at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City a little before noon which allowed us to scope out the marina and the casino. First off, Atlantic City is no Vegas. Not even close. Most tourist destinations and restaurants are only open on weekends! We did; however, walk a goodly portion of the boardwalk, again most places were closed, but we found Gordon Ramsey’s Pub in Caesar’s Palace. Caesar’s in Atlantic City is nothing like Caesar’s in Vegas in size or number of restaurant or shopping establishments. I think I will stick with Vegas for that kind of vacation.
We left this morning in a thunder and lightening rain storm – yup, crazy as that is, we did. We figured since we were heading up the New Jersey ICW (intercoastal waterway) we should be okay. This portion, the very last portion of the Atlantic ICW, was very shallow in spots and had to be traversed only at high tide. This was one of our shortest distances, just over 30 miles, at about 7 MPH due to the shallow spots. But we finally made it to an anchorage in a little bay. We had been in marinas for the last 13 nights and I found that I actually missed the quiet and solitude of being on anchor.
From here, we will be slowly making or way north and finding places to hide from some pretty lousy winds over the next 4 days before we get into New York harbor. Keep checking in on our adventure. Love to all, Gina and Mike
